Kerrie Anderson Ric Pollard
2009 saw both Ric and Kerrie visit Siem Reap Cambodia for the first time as tourists. On their return to Australia it was decided to return as soon as possible to assist the underprivileged Khmer people however they could.
2010 saw them return to assist at a village school where there were 15 local adolescents volunteering their time and energies to educate the younger generation. Sophara was amongst these 15 volunteers. His enthusiasm to help others shone through and it didn't take long for both Ric and Kerrie to realise that he had a special quality about him.
Both Ric and Kerrie forged a lifelong friendship not only with Sophara but many other Khmer people. They not only helped with HERO school but also many other projects. They raised money back home in Australia and returned yearly to spend time back in Siem Reap, Cambodia, helping where they could.
Over the years Sophara had discussed with them his dream of building a school in his home village. He wanted to be able to help educate the young children and give them an opportunity to improve their lives and give them hope for the future.
In 2013 the first KIDTEA school building was erected. Since then and because of the ongoing support with fundraising the school has grown and is a huge success.
Ric and Kerrie are always ready to advice Sophara when needed; but they acknowledge that Sophara is the one that has worked tirelessly to make KIDTEA what it is today.
All his dreams and longings have come to fruition. It gives them so much pleasure to see his dream of educating the younger generation succeed.
They would like to acknowledge all the Aussies that are donating towards the school costs and all the generous ongoing support that goes on behind the scenes of KIDTEA.
Special thanks go out to Megan Watkins. She also has worked so hard to get the school to where it is today.
