Kerrie Anderson Ric Pollard
2009 saw Kerry and Ric visit Siem Reap Cambodia for the first time as tourists. On their return to Australia they decided they wanted to return to Cambodia as soon as possible to help the underprivileged people however they could.
In 2010 they returned to assist at a village school where there were 15 local adolescents volunteering their time and energy to educate the younger generation. Sophara was amongst these 15 volunteers. His enthusiasm to help others shone through and it didn't take long for both Ric and Kerrie to realise that he had a special quality about him.
Both Ric and Kerrie forged a lifelong friendship not only with Sophara but many other Khmer people and helped with a number of projects in the area.
Once they were back in Australia they set out to raise as much money as possible and decided to return to Cambodia each year to help where they could with the money they raised.
Over the years Sophara had discussed with them his dream of building a school in his home village. His dream was to be able to help educate the young children and give them an opportunity to improve their lives and give them hope for the future.
In 2013 the first KIDTEA school building was erected! Since then and because of the ongoing support with fundraising the school has grown and is now a huge success.
Ric and Kerrie are always ready to advice Sophara when needed; but they acknowledge that Sophara is the one that has worked tirelessly to make KIDTEA what it is today. It gives them so much pleasure to see his dream of educating the younger generation succeed.
We would like to take this time to acknowledge everyone that has donated to our school and all the generous ongoing support that goes on behind the scenes of KIDTEA.
A special thank you goes out to Megan Watkins. She has worked so hard to get the school to where it is today.
Mr. Heng Dara -
Dara is the principal of The Global Child School in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Being a local Khmer and an educational leader it is a pleasure that he is part of the team. He not only provides mentoring to Sophara but is also advisor to Kerrie and Ric. He is happy to pass on his knowledge and continues to support KIDTEA by sharing his wisdom with us.
He strives to help others, especially the underprivileged and spends a lot of his time giving others a helping hand. Dara has been fundamental in the growth of KIDTEA and his dedication to helping others is to be admired.
