To provide free education to underprivileged children and teens to teach them useful life skills and provide them with better opportunities, improved quality of life, and more hope for the future.
KIDTEA is a registered non-governmental organisation (NGO) that provides free education to approximately 90 underprivileged children and youth in the Siem Reap Province, Cambodia.
Our team, although small, is dedicated to empowering the students through education to improve their quality of life and give them better opportunities in the future.
At KIDTEA we believe that by providing free education to underprivileged children and youth who live in the Siem Reap (Cambodia) countryside will reduce poverty and improve the living standards of students and their families. Unable to be educated by their parents or by a nearby school it is common for children and teens to have to leave school or home to work. KIDTEA is helping to break this cycle of poverty.
Unfortunately here in Cambodia, public school teachers are heavily underpaid which means the public school environments are often resentful and cold and individual care of the students is very rare. To counter this experience, KIDTEA strives to create a warm, friendly environment where each student is genuinely cared for and inspired. At KIDTEA we enforce a strict child protection policy which ensures the safety and well-being of all of our students.
Our history - The man with a dream
Founder of the school Sophara Ngoeum, spent much of his early adulthood as a practicing monk where he was given the opportunity to be educated and learn English at Bakong Pagoda. In his late 20's he had a dream of building a school for his community so that the underprivileged children and youth were given the opportunity to be educated in the English language as he was.
In 2013 with the financial and emotional support of his dear friends from Australia he was able to start building his dream. KIDTEA project began in 2012 and the school was opened in March 2013.
Mr Sophara, along with the support of advisors, partners and the his team, has worked hard to make this dream a reality and continues to better the lives of many children and youth in his village.
We have to make a special mention to Bamboo Project (BamBoo) who provides ongoing support to KIDTEA.
